Like seriously. People have fallen into the ‘blame obama’ trap and think that the president really has a fucking say in anything regarding the DoD besides the Marines.

Y’all need to learn how politics and the US Government works. Most of the time the president signs shit off the word of his advisors and aides.

And guess what? Politics is dirty business. For all you folks know he might not even be aware that he’s signing away the lives of innocent people.

I guess his passive handing of Gitmo and the re-signing of the President act is the same, just not “knowing” what hes signing

He plays as big a part in this as anyone, these are his authorizations. You’re going to need a bigger excuse than his aides and advisors

i agree with the idea that there is a blame obama trap. In general there is a considerable over focus on the executive as a source of blame due to visibility that tends to obscure not only the other two branches but other levels of government historical antecedents and as well as the ignorance and ambivalence of regular everyday people.

In order for government to run people in charge have to delegate authority to people lower in the totem pole. A big part of why we do that is because politicians are unable be experts at all the questions and issues that come before them. So it falls to bureaucracy who are staffed with experts that do the heavy lifting of crafting policy and determining how that policy will function on the ground level, tactics essentially, while the people in charge craft strategy. This has to happen or we dont get anything done.

Now while it is acceptable to delegate power/authority it is not acceptable to delegate responsibility. Thats what it means to be in charge to be responsible. That’s an ethical standard established in the Nuremberg trials post WW2. Now sure by the very nature of large complex hierarchical organizations there will inevitably be issues Operation fast and furious and the IRS scandal for example, however Obama has promoted the drone program and its extrajudical killings to the public applause no less. Its true Obama is not a soldier and relies heavily on the Secretary of Defense in terms of tactics however to say Obama is unaware of what he is authorizing isn’t support by the facts, not at this particular juncture in his administration.

And lets say that Obama didnt/doesnt know. How is that not grossly negligent on his part as the guy in charge. That would be inexcusable.

I do wonder what information that they have sole access that justifies the tactical decisions to use drones as they are. I wonder what they know that makes them see threats as they do. And i do not envy being in the position of having to make decisions about who’s lives are more important because of the social fear created by the trauma of 9/11 and stoked by xenophobia, racism, religious fanaticism, and ignorance.

In my opinion there blame on all of us for these innocents. Frankly I’d rather be less safe.

Saying Obama has no idea what is happening is like saying the CEOs of the Wall Street investment banks that ran the economy into the ground had no idea what was happening in their business. It’s their JOB to know b/c their policies/business dealings cost people their lives and livelihoods.
